ISSA Certificates

Validity of motorboating and sailing certificates issued by ISSA

ISSA motorboat and sailing certificates, established in 1969, set a benchmark for high standards in the training of individuals wishing to operate watercraft. For over 50 years, ISSA has aimed to establish educational standards for various forms of recreational water activities. During this time, the organization has gained recognition as an international association bringing together national sailing organizations from many countries around the world.

Qualification documents issued by ISSA follow multiple regulations, including those of the United Kingdom and, since January 2021, the European Union in accordance with the regulations of the Republic of Cyprus. It is important to note that although ISSA certificates are not recognized by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) due to their focus on recreational training, their importance in the international sailing community is undeniable. Despite this, ISSA as an umbrella organization supports and promotes the concept of the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) in accordance with UNECE Resolution No. 40.

Qualification documents issued by ISSA comply with defined standards. However, despite the possibility of issuing qualifications for professional operation of watercraft, such training is not available, for example, in Poland.

ISSA certificates are intended to facilitate the safe use of recreational vessels in popular charter regions. These documents confirm the holder’s qualifications in a manner recognized internationally. At the same time, ISSA respects local regulations and standards; therefore, the laws of a given country always take precedence over ISSA standards.

ISSA also cooperates with training centers accredited by local authorities of a given country, which further enhances the prestige and acceptance of the certificates issued by this organization. As an ISSA-certified school, we not only respect the high educational standards set by ISSA, but also actively support the development of its training model. Our organization continuously works on improving educational processes, integrating valuable materials provided by ISSA. ISSA educational materials are characterized by clarity, making them ideally suited for delivering knowledge through both on-site and online training. This clarity and ease of understanding ensure effective and accessible learning for participants, and we proudly use these materials, implementing them within our educational system in both traditional and online environments.

Further information about available ISSA qualification documents can be found on the ISSA website.
