Offshore Motorboat Helmsman

Polish Offshore Motorboat Helmsman (RP) – a license authorizing independent operation of motorboats in sea waters both during the day and at night. The document is issued under the laws of the Republic of Poland.

What do we offer?

The Sea Powerboat Skipper is a prestigious license issued by the Polish Motorboating and Water Skiing Association. It is a state license authorizing the holder to operate vessels on both sea and inland waters. Holding this license is a sign of extensive knowledge, experience, and the skills required for safe and professional vessel handling.

To obtain this license, certain requirements must be met. A candidate for the Sea Powerboat Skipper license must be at least 18 years old and have completed the required sea service of 200 hours of sea navigation in at least 2 voyages. The candidate should demonstrate both practical and theoretical skills in navigation, water safety rules, vessel mechanics, and maritime regulations. The course includes, among others, vessel handling, operation of navigation and rescue equipment, as well as knowledge of first aid.

With the Sea Powerboat Skipper license, a person may operate various types of vessels such as boats, large yachts, or pontoons on both inland and sea waters without engine power limitations. It is an excellent opportunity for recreational trips or tourist expeditions, as well as a chance to work in professions related to water transport, for example as a skipper or cruise helmsman.

However, holding this license also comes with responsibility. A Sea Powerboat Skipper must continuously improve their qualifications, remain aware of maritime regulations, and above all ensure the safety of passengers and the vessel. They are responsible for maintaining the technical condition of the vessel, following safety rules, and reacting appropriately in emergency situations.

Obtaining this certificate not only increases competence in operating vessels but also opens the door to many new opportunities. It offers the chance to pursue a passion, develop professionally, and enjoy full freedom on the water, while placing strong emphasis on responsible and safe maritime adventures.

Why train with Ocean Angels?

It's simple! We are the only training center in Poland that places such strong emphasis on practical skills, offering up to 25 hours of intensive on-water training. Moreover, we even recommend 32 hours of practical classes so our trainees can gain maximum experience. We believe that real experience is gained behind the helm, not only in theory.

Our approach is maximum efficiency – thanks to our innovative training portal trainees acquire theoretical knowledge at their own pace, anywhere and anytime. We then spend only 5–6 hours summarizing it and explaining the key topics. This means that most of the course is real practice on the water, and you learn what matters most – safe and confident navigation.

The best part? No hidden costs! The course price is 1950 PLN, and we cover the exam fee for you in the amount of 350 PLN

Join us and gain skills that truly make a difference on the water!

Types and course format

THE COURSE CAN BE CONDUCTED IN TWO FORMATS – YOU CHOOSE WHICH ONE

Hybrid format

Step one:
After creating an account in our system and selecting the training, each candidate is required to complete the documents required by Ocean Angels in the system,

Step two: Each candidate is required to participate in three 2-hour online meetings with an OAC instructor. The meetings are conducted via widely available video-conference applications. If the participant does not have such an application, the meeting takes place through a system provided by OAC.

Step three: E-learning training that must be completed after the online meetings with the OAC instructor. This stage is mandatory for each candidate and is a form of theoretical self-study that does not take place in a traditional classroom format.

Step four: At the final stage of theoretical training, the participant must complete a test to verify the knowledge acquired in the previous steps. Successfully completing the test allows the participant to register for the in-person training, which depending on the selected service lasts from 5 hours to 16 hours (one to two days – depending on the number of participants and their level of preparation after the online e-learning training).

Step five: Completion of the in-person training authorizes the candidate, depending on the licenses*/certificates they are applying for, to take the exam**. Exams are held on the day the in-person training ends or on the following day after the course***.

Step six: Depending on the organization and qualifications chosen by the participant, it remains to submit an application for the document or wait for the document authorizing yacht operation or confirming the acquired knowledge and skills.

In-person format

Step one: After creating an account in our system and selecting the training, each candidate must complete the documents required by Ocean Angels in the system,

Step two: Each candidate should participate in a 30-minute online meeting with an OAC instructor. The meeting is conducted via widely available video-conference applications. If the participant does not have such an application, the meeting takes place through a system provided by OAC. The purpose of the meeting is to provide basic training materials and prepare the participant for the full in-person training. The online meeting is not mandatory; however, trainees have access to training materials for self-study via e-learning.

Step three: Each candidate must participate in a 24-hour in-person training divided into two modules: theoretical and practical. The training takes place in various locations across European Union countries at facilities designated by OAC.

Step four: Full participation in the in-person training authorizes the candidate, depending on the licenses*/certificates they are applying for, to take the exam**. Exams are held on the day the in-person training ends or on the following day after the course***.

Step five: Depending on the organization or qualifications chosen by the participant, the final step is submitting an application for the document or waiting for the document authorizing yacht operation or confirming the acquired knowledge and skills.

* Each participant must pay particular attention to the training offer they have chosen. Below is the procedure for obtaining state licenses / certificates or licenses.

  1. Obtaining the Motorboat Helmsman or Sea Motorboat Helmsman license issued by PZMiNW on behalf of the Minister of Sport and Tourism and the Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy (information link) requires passing an exam in the presence of an examiner of the Polish Motorboating and Water Skiing Association or an entity authorized by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland. Exams are organized on the day the participant attends the practical/in-person training. After passing the exam and receiving the confirmation certificate, an application must be submitted according to the instructions of the Polish Motorboating and Water Skiing Association  >License application<
  2. Obtaining the ISSA International Sailing School Association certificate does not require additional exams; however, OAC conducts its own internal theoretical online exam available after completing the course.
  3. Obtaining the Motorboat Helmsman, Yacht Sailor, Sea Motorboat Skipper, Yacht Skipper and SRC Radio Operator certificates issued by IRSMA requires passing an internal exam organized by Ocean Angels on the day the participant attends the practical/in-person training. The exam for the IRSMA license is a separate exam required by the International Recreation Sailing and Motorboat Association.

** Taking the exam is not mandatory, but it is necessary to complete the process of obtaining the above qualifications / licenses / certificates.

*** Each participant who chooses the Motorboat Helmsman, Sea Motorboat Helmsman, Yacht Sailor, or Yacht Master Offshore training – unless otherwise stated in the offer – is automatically registered with the entity authorized to conduct the exam on behalf of the Minister of Sport and Tourism. For this purpose, in the "Your Documents" section please add the required document (ID card or copy of ID) after anonymizing the document – instructions are provided in the Anonymization PDF available in the system after selecting the training.
